India's polished diamond exports up 4% in September

In September 2011, India's diamond trade saw a dip in imports of both polished and rough diamonds. Imports of polished diamonds dropped 22 percent to $1.34 billion. Exports of the same saw a marginal 4 percent rise to value $2.49 billion. The country’s net polished exports, representing the excess of exports over imports, rose 70 percent to $1.15 billion.

Imports of rough diamonds dipped 4 percent to $936.4 million, while exports rose a whopping 48 percent to $146.6 million. India's net rough imports, (valued as imports less exports) dropped 10 percent to $789.8 million.

Net diamond account for the month (valued as the total of polished and rough exports less the total of polished and rough imports) stood at $361.3 million (deficit of $205 million in September 2010).
