In November 2012, India noted a 20 percent increase (on y-o-y basis) in its polished diamond exports, which stood at $1.415 billion, reports say. In volume terms the said exports dropped 10 percent to 2.640 million carats, while the average price of the polished diamond exported rose surged 34 percent to $535.80 per carat. Polished diamond imports dropped 52 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $389.46 million. The country’s net polished exports (valued as excess of exports over imports) increased 172 percent to $1.025 billion, reports suggest.
The exports of rough diamonds decreased 25 percent to $110.40 million, while imports of the rough diamonds dropped 22 percent to $892.03 million. The country’s net rough imports (valued as rough imports less exports) decreased 22 percent to $781.63 million.
The country’s net diamond account in the month, (representing total exports less total imports) reflected a surplus of $243.41 million (the same was in a deficit of $625.92 million in November last year).
