India’s polished diamond exports drop 27% in November

In November 2011, India’s rough diamond trade added some positive output to the country's basket of gem and jewellery exports, while its polished diamond trade went through a dip. Polished diamond exports dropped 27 percent y-o-y to $1.182 billion, and polished diamond imports fell 20 percent to $803.49 million.

Net polished exports for the country in the said month (representing the excess of exports over imports), dropped 38 percent to $378.73 million.

The rough diamond exports rose by a whooping 167 percent y-o-y to $146.29 million and rough diamond imports jumped almost by half - 49 percent to $1.169 billion in the said month. The country’s net rough imports were up 40 percent to $1.023 billion.

The net diamond account (valued as total polished and rough exports less sum of polished and rough imports) stood at a deficit of $644.84 million (in November 2010 it stood at a deficit of $124.19 million).
