India’s gem and jewellery exports rise 1.8% in February

India’s gem and jewellery exports in February 2017 enjoyed a marginal 1.8 percent increase on y-o-y basis to US$ 3.91 billion, as per reports. Cut and polished diamond exports valued US$ 2.41 billion after a 3.27 percent rise. Gold jewellery exports (including studded and plain together) took a sharp 46 percent fall to US$ 418.99 million, reports add.

Gold medallions and coins exports valued US$ 436.4 million (February 2016: US$ 250.4 million), while silver jewellery exports rose to US$ 413 million from US$ 266.13 million in February 2016. Coloured gemstone exports took a dip to US$ 51.29 million from US$ 65.20 million in the same month last year.

Imports of rough diamonds slipped 2.9 percent to US$ 1.51 billion, but rose in volume terms by 14.1 percent to 17.8 million carats, Cut and polished diamond imports slipped 19.8 percent in value terms to US$ 177.89 million.
