India’s gem and jewellery exports dip 15.13% in January

India’s cut and polished diamond exports in January 2016 dropped 41.72 percent on y-o-y basis, to US$ 1.05 billion. Exports of gold jewellery rose 12.57 percent to US$ 601.12 million. The sector’s overall exports was worth US$ 2.54 billion, dropping 15.13 percent from US$ 3 billion exported in January 2015.

In the said month, rough diamond imports stood at US$ 990 million rising 16.35 percent in value terms and by 39.5 percent in volume terms to 12.25 million carats. Imports of cut and polished diamonds declined from US$ 372.7 million in January 2015 to US$ 197.34 million in January this year.

The colored gemstone segment growth dipped 24 percent in which exports were worth US$ 36.99 million as compared to US$ 48.67 million in January 2015.
