The need is for a hallmarking system and standard followed across the country, reports add. Currently, not all jewellery in India is hallmarked, reports say.
The government has recognized Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to be the only agency in India to operate this scheme. According to the World Gold Council (WGC), around 30 percent of the jewellery in India is hallmarked, with the hallmarking standard by BIS introduced in 2000, reports add.
