Going by the current rate, the quantity of gold seized in a full year is all set to cross 1000 kilograms in 2014, for the first time in the Airport’s history, adds a report. Further, the report adds that to keep the increased incidences of gold smuggling in check, the Direct Revenue Intelligence (DRI) under the Customs Department had tightened the scrutiny mechanisms and security procedures at the airport.

For the past three years, the gold seizures has shown steady rise. The gold seized in 2012 had totaled just 63 kilograms while in 2013, there was five-fold rise in gold seizures to 346 kilograms, adds a report.
