The second show by the Gemological institute of America (GIA), at the India International Jewellery Week 2013, showcased the work of five design talents. Nirupa Bhatt MD, India and Middle East of Gemological Institute of America, proudly presented this segment.

Designer Jayshree Thakur showcased jewellery designed with inspirations from mother nature, displaying the harmony existing in nature. It reflected the designer’s signature style of jewellery blending it with the social causes close to her heart. He collection at the show saw a blend of metal and stones. A cottage motif pendant with a horse design rested on a flat band, while layers of green enamel, gold and lilac to produce a necklace. A web like neck piece with a butterfly and onyx centre, the twisted flat diamond/rubies piece and the bold plait of diamonds of enamelled painted pendant with pearls/diamonds/rubies completed the line.

Shraddha Agarwal had unconventional, charismatic designs that reflected a feminine elegance and expressed wearbility. Her approach as a designer has been to create pieces that are intricately crafted, experimental, and textured using a variety of diamonds and coloured stones. The show opened with six pendants attached to a necklace of rubies, kadas, jhoomer and earrings, followed by a heart shaped neck piece with oval pendant, Maang Tikkas and cuffs. A square bangle twinkled with diamonds and the wrap around pearl, diamond, gold neck ornament with two large pearls at the tips was a stunner.

Designer Bhumika Selvadia made pieces not only for everyday glamour but for that very special occasion. Her style reflected the many choices of a contemporary Indian woman and the different roles of a woman in society. It was traditional bridal wear with the Haar Chotli, belt, choker, bracelet in yellow gold, diamonds and rubies; while the simple diamond strand was ideal for festive wear. Three neck pieces completely South Indian look in design comprising of a Raani Haar, hasli and choker with jhumkas, armlet and bangles. Emeralds and diamonds played with pearls for a long strand around the neck; while the diamond moulded belt and Haar as well as Haar Chotli and armlets were the complete offering for the wedding day.

Garima Dixit, reflected her belief that design is a combination of past, present and future. Her designs were aimed for special occasions in a woman’s life, with designs blending tradition with contemporary. The presentation opened with an over-powering nose ring and intricate swirling design for the earrings worn with diamond choker. Yellow gold was crafted into a side swept graduating choker, while gold giant flowers embellished a necklace worn with a towering ring. An interesting addition was the bangle-cum-armlet linked by chains and the linear danglers in gold and diamonds. The finale piece was a spread collar over shoulders in coloured diamonds, rubies and emeralds.

Designer Nikki Arora creative, fluid and one-of-a-kind pieces presented options to wear for every special occasion. Her collection was inspired by nature and included exquisite handmade statement neckpieces. There were rows of white gold speckled with stones for a necklace, a side pendant amongst gold beads and strands of diamonds, sprays of flowers on velvet bands, moulded one finger Haath Phool worn with three semi circles around the neck, were some pieces. The raised cuff in a lacy design with multiple star burst necklace and tikka, sparkled with emeralds and diamonds.
