“We have garnered new business,” say 91 % of exhibitors
IIJS 2013 Show Survey

The concluding day of the India International Jewellery Show 2013 is here and so is the verdict on this show. We went scouting for opinions and reactions to bring you a survey which will tell our readers exactly how have the exhibitors rated this show.

Russell Mehta, Managing Director, Rosy Blue - The jewellery section has faired better than the loose diamond section, this year. Both, gold and diamond jewellery are moving well at the IIJS but loose diamonds are on a slump. In terms of garnering new business, the last year was much better for us. There are a lot of new clients especially from China and they are buying as the Chinese economy is on a recovery mode. Diamonds upto three to four carats are in good demand this year. I believe the upcoming Hong Kong show will fair better than IIJS, this year. Also, there are chances that IIJS in the coming few years will be more of a jewellery show than loose diamonds show. Overal, the show has been okay but last year was better.

Gaurav Jagwani, Director, Saiesha Jewellery - The show progresses and each year for us and this year too, it has proved than the last year for us. We have made a lot of new clients and have forayed into smaller towns and cities such as Bareily and Nasik. If the buyers from such small cities are coming in and booking our products than it is a vital sign that we are doing well. There has been a huge influx of Indian buyers as people from smaller towns are also making their presence felt at the show, this year. Our jewellery is one-of-a-kind and truly ‘designer’ in nature thus our products are being lapped up even in the current adverse economic scenario. Design and innovation is the driving force of the industry right now. If our jewellery was the common, bridal traditional jewellery I do not think the show would have been this for us as it has been this year. In a nutshel, I am happy and content with IIJS 2013.

Kripesh Sanghvi, Director, Union Chains & Jewellers Pvt. Ltd. - The show has been good for us. We have received orders and have garnered good amount of inquiries, too. The IIJS is seeing the right type of buyers this year. But, we witnessed a drop in international visitors. The Indian buyers are ready to stock up and have booked well. Nevertheless, we are happy with the show as it is definitely better than last year.

Ashu Malpani, President, Dynamic International - We have received lot of positive inquiries from Indian visitors and buyers. We deal in natural fancy colour diamond jewellery, sliced diamond jewellery which is completely new for the Indian market. This is one of the reasons the visitors, jewellers and buyers are amazed to know about our collection. The Indian market is not yet matured for these type of diamonds therefore we require niche kind of buyers and visitors. But, I am unsatisfied with the quality of the visitors. Management should look into this matter regarding wrong visitors entering the show. We also had problems with location as bringing in all the material from out and take it out again has become too tedious.

Ghanshyam Dholakia, Director, Harikrishna Exports Pvt. Ltd. - The show is good and there are serious buyers walking in. It is much better than the last year although there is a steep decline in international visitors. Nevertheless, I would like to say that IIJS has given the much needed boost to the industry and sentiments are turning positive for the upcoming season. The starting three days were jam-packed with visitors and inquiries as compared to the fourth day. On the whole the show to us is positive in terms of sale.

Shravan Satyani, Director, Satyani Fine Jewels - The show has faired well for us. There is a lot of walk-in and right type of visitors are visiting but I am unhappy with my stall location. Even after requesting and applying for upgradation of location, I was not granted a new location. We have got orders and inquiries domestically but there is a fall in umber of international visitors and buyers. The jewellery section was under the spotlight this year and loose diamonds section was quite slow. Even the Antwerp section is small in size as compared to the previous year.
