IDI hosts 38th Convocation-cum-Foundation Day

IDI hosts 38th Convocation-cum-Foundation Day

With the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and a parayer of of Maa Saraswati, the 38th Convocation-cum-Institute’s Foundation Day was celebrated at IDI-City Centre, Vesu Campus on Friday, 13 May 2016.

The event unfolded in the presence of Mr. Jayantibhai D. Narola, Managing Director, Shree Ramkrishna Exports Pvt. Ltd., Surat as Chief Guest, Dr. Chandan Chaterjee, Director, CED, Gandhinagar, Shri P.K. Makwana, Addl. Resident Collector, Surat, Shri D. R. Parmar, Deputy Industries Commissioner, Gandhinagar, Shri Dineshbhai Navadia, Regional Chairman, GJEPC and President, Surat Diamond Association, apart from leading diamond merchants and Jewellers.

The institute’s 190 students have been conferred Diplomas. Shri Samir Joshi, Executive Director of IDI congratulated the students on their success. Mr. Joshi delivered an audio-visual presentation on the activities undertaken by IDI in the year 2015-16. Further, he praised the services of IDI-DDRC (Diamond Detection & Resource Centre). The Reskilling Programme launched in association with GJEPC in the various parts of the states, has seen approximately 300 persons being trained at Bhavnagar, Rajkot, Junagadh and Surat. He also mentioned that institute had conducted Workshop on Natural & Synthetic Diamonds: Screening & Testing in Surat, Ahmedabad & Bhavnagar and impart hands on training to participants for identification of Synthetic Diamond.

Dr. Chatterjee congratulated the graduates and the institute for its efforts. Shri Narola praised IDI as a premier institute of India with all the courses related to diamonds and Jewellery are being run under the single roof since 1978. Regional Chairman of GJEPC, Dinesh Navadiya also said, "It is utmost important for the young passouts to uphold the image of the gems and jewellery sector among the consumers. The issue of illegal mixing of synthetic with natural diamonds has shaken the consumer confidence in last three years. It is the duty of the new entrants in the industry to spread awareness among consumers.”
