Harry Winston partners with Victoria and Albert Museum

Famed as a Jeweller to the Stars, Harry Winston Inc. is adding a new page to its Hollywood association, having partnered with the Victoria and Albert Museum, as lead sponsor of an exhibition entitled - Hollywood Costume. The exhibition is slated at the V&A in London from 20th October 2012 - 27th January 2013. It celebrates costume design for motion pictures as a vibrant modern art form and a key component of cinema storytelling.

Te exhibit is expected to showcase some of the most beloved and iconic costumes from over 100 years of cinematic history including the Silent era, Golden Age of Hollywood, and modern digital productions.

Harry Winston’s Hollywood association goes way back in the days of Marilyn Monroe. Harry Winston was said to have revolutionized the red carpet glamour and was the first jeweller to loan to an actress for the Academy Awards. In 1944, he dressed Best Actress winner Jennifer Jones in his signature diamonds, followed by Jennifer Lopez, Sophia Loren to Scarlett Johansson, Marilyn Monroe to Madonna, Elizabeth Taylor to Angelina Jolie and several other blockbuster movies. For over seven decades, the House of Harry Winston has been an integral part of Hollywood’s glamorous history.

Commenting on the partnership Frédéric de Narp, President & CEO, Harry Winston Inc. said: “Through this partnership, we pay homage to the legacy of our founder, Mr. Harry Winston, who was the first jeweller to loan diamonds to a celebrity on the red carpet. In the V&A, we have found a new and like-minded brand partner, and look forward to building a strong relationship with this pioneering museum of art and design.”

Hollywood Costume is a unique exhibition, giving an exceptional experience of the costumes and their history. Using montages, film clips and projections, the clothes will be placed in their original context, alongside interviews with key Hollywood costume designers, directors and actors talking about the role costume plays in creating a character.

The V&A is the world’s leading museum of art and design with collections unrivalled in their scope and diversity.
