An exhibition of diamond jewellery, designed by 25 contemporary jewellery designers who also are members of the Israel Community of Designers, recently opened at the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Museum. The opening event was attended by Israel Diamond Institute Group of Companies (IDI) Chairman Moti Ganz, Israel Diamond Exchange President Avi Paz, Chairman of the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Museum Shmuel Schnitzer, Ramat Gan Mayor Tzvi Bar, President of the Israel Community of Designers David Grossman and Head of the Jewelry Designers Section in the Community Batia Wang, who also participated as a jewellery designer.

Each designer was given 3 carats of diamonds valued at $5000 from Israeli diamond companies, to design either one or more jewellery pieces in any material of choice, the only directive being that every jewellery piece be made with diamonds. Designers created earrings, pendants, rings, pins, necklaces, bracelets and one piece both a pendant and a piece of art, applying materials like gold, silver, iron, Perspex, wood, Styrofoam and paper. David Grossman, President of the Israel Community of Designers said: “Providing outstanding designers with diamonds, the most important gemstone, is a challenge that guarantees interesting results. The resulting designs of diamond jewellery have turned this exhibition into an expression of international excellence in terms of design and industry.”

Shmuel Schnitzer, Chairman of the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Museum, said: “This exhibition is another step made by the Israeli Diamond Industry to make Israeli Diamond Jewelry as desirable as other international jewellery. We find that being a world-class diamond center gives Israeli designers the advantage of becoming prominent in the global jewellery industry as well.”

After the exhibition, the jewellery pieces will be put up for sale. The exhibition is jointly curated by Batia Wang, Head of the Jewelry Designers Section of the Community of Designers and Yehuda Kassif, Art Director of the museum and is designed by Ayal Schoenbaum of Tukan Designs, also a participant.
