Glimpz 2008, a glimpse into innovative designing

‘Glimpz 2008’, an annual exhibition of Graduating Jewellery Projects by the students of the Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery (IIGJ) is being held from May 5 to May 12, 2008. The exhibition held in the D Navinchandra Auditorium, was inaugurated by jewellery designer Roopa Vohra.

The second batch of Diploma in Jewellery Design and Manufacture Technology (DJDMT) displayed their creative designs in silver. Applying their imagination and guided by a project guide, the students weaved magic with silver, fusing concepts with designs. Each student used different mechanisms and materials to create stunning jewellery and supported them with detailed explanations for their choice of subject and concept.

Some students made use of crochet in jewellery to lend an Italian look while others added a playful element to their designs, using wires. A collection of rings and pendants was crafted in manner that made the attached diamond rotate upto 360 degrees, a novel setting, which received much appreciation. There were also two finger ring designs in which the fixed diamond seemed as though suspended. The Indian temple designs, specially designed art work of thermometer and clock, use of fabric, and a puzzle effect in designing were some of creative efforts.

Another collection themed on the sun sign ‘Pisces’, was interpreted with deigns in fish cuts. The Filipendo design is such that when flipped creates magic, and can be worn in multiple types by just flipping it in different angles. Some used the Polka concept in designing jewellery. The exhibition was well arranged and the students’ talent and efforts stood out.
