THE Gemmological institute of India (GII) held its convocation function on December 2nd at Chavan Centre Mumbai. Mr Sanjay Bhai Kothari, Chairman, The gem and jewellery Export promotion Council, was the Chief Guest for the occasion.

Mr Dilip Lakhi and Mr Navin Bhai D Mehta were amongst the guest of honour.

The event started off with the opening speech by Mr Kirtilal K Doshi, Chairman of GII.
“It is a graduation ceremony where the recipients of the Diploma Certificates are accredited with authenticity and authority for gemological knowledge. At this juncture I would like to tell the students that it is not the end but a humble beginning of their career. “

This was followed by positive and confidence building message from both the guest of honour respectively.

The awards were give out to students in three categories including Gemmology, Diamond Grading and Jewellery Designing.

It was nice to see that not just Mumbai but students from all over India had come to receive heir certificates. There were students from Bhopal, Kerela, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Cacutta, Indore and Lucknow!

GJEPC under the leadership of Mr Sanjay Kothari and other able elders have decided to set up a ‘National Research Centre’ to protect and develop the interest of the Gem and Jewellery Industry in India. Towards the fulfillment of this project council has already supported GII to establish a nucleus R and D Cell at Sukh Sagar, opera House.
