Gem Legacy Launches Gem Legacy Adventures

Gem Legacy Launches Gem Legacy Adventures

The new, for-profit company will offer guided tours of East Africa

Gem Legacy, a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to supporting vocational training, entrepreneurship, and community development in East African colored gemstone mining regions, announces the launch of a separate, for-profit travel company, Gem Legacy Adventures, to offer guided tours of Gem Legacy initiatives, safaris to see animal habitats, and immersion in East African culture.

The profits of Gem Legacy Adventures will cover Gem Legacy’s non-profit administrative costs, ensuring it can continue its promise that 100% of every donation goes direct to the initiatives. Travellers are not required to be members of the jewellery industry. However, Gem Legacy anticipates interest from members of the jewellery industry who may want to visit gem mining at the source, to speak more authoritatively about it, or to address responsible gem mining questions.

The Adventures will focus on visiting the initiatives of Gem Legacy, including several artisanal gem mines, as well as exploring the surrounding culture and national parks. Trips will also each include a service project day at one of the Gem Legacy initiatives. The first Gem Legacy Adventures trip is scheduled from July 21 to 30, in Northern Tanzania and Southern Kenya. Twelve spots are available.
