Gem Diamonds discovers two rough stones of over 160 carats each

Gem Diamonds has discovered two diamonds of over 160 carats each at its Letšeng mine in Lesotho. The pair of the said rough diamonds are of 162.06 and 161.74 carats, respectively, reports say. Of the two the 162.06-carat stone is a Type II and the 161.74-carat stone is a Type I, reports add.

The company plans to present the stones for sale at its tender this month and expects them to sell at ‘top prices’, reports say.

Gem Diamond owns 70 percent of the Letšeng mine, with the remaining 30 percent owned by the Lesotho government. The mine has been delivering ‘large, high-quality white diamonds’ according to the company, reports suggest.
