GJEPC to present India Show at BaselWorld 2011

Thirty-two Indian gem and jewellery companies plan to exhibit at the Indian Pavilion to be hosted by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) at BaselWorld 2011 from 24th - 31st March, 2011.

This year, on the behest of the Government of India, to promote India’s culture on a global platform through the property - the 'India show’, the GJEPC will bring the 'India Show' to BaselWorld, to strengthening the bilateral trade relations. It will feature cultural & jewellery fashion presentations, and authentic Indian cuisine prepared by master chefs from India. The Show will be inaugurated by Hon'ble Minister of Commerce & Industry, Mr. Anand Sharma will inaugurate the Show on behalf of government of India along with Mr. Didier Burkhalter, Federal Councilor, Head of the Federal Department of Home Affairs. A special 'India Gallery' is being created where exquisite jewellery pieces from Indian exhibitors will be showcased for the visitors.

Mr. Rajiv Jain, chairman, GJEPC, as quoted by reports mentions India’s gems and jewellery exports ‘expected to grow at a whopping 35% in 2011’ and its diamond jewellery market by ‘15-20 percent between 2010-2015’. The Indian participation at BaselWorld would ‘increase the trade intensity towards India’ he further stated. The Council is looking upon the India Show as a step ‘closer to creating Brand India and establishing India as the global trading hub’.
