GJEPC renews its tie-up with UBM Asia

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has signed a cooperation agreement with UBM Asia Ltd, to organise the India Pavilion at the 2018 editions of the June and September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fairs.

This is not the first time that the GJEPC and UBM Asia Ltd have come together for India Pavillion at Hong Kong shows. In the past, the exhibitors at the India Pavillion were reportedly unhappy with the positioning of the India Pavillion which wasn’t strategic enough to get good visitors.

The earlier tie-up between the Council and UBM Asia was called off for reasons unknown.

GJEPC Chairman Pramod Agarwal said, “Hong Kong has been second largest export market for the Indian gem & jewellery industry. The two UBM shows of June and September is an important platform for the Indian gem and jewellery industry as these shows will not only help us to expand our reach in the Hong Kong market but will also give access to other key markets in Asia. In a landmark cooperation agreement with UBM, we have made sure that our best manufacturers get this opportunity at India Pavilion to showcase their capabilities in terms of best cuts and jewellery design”.

For the upcoming shows, the India Pavilion will feature a total of 50+ exhibitors in the Gemstones (Hall 5E) and Diamonds (Hall 3BDCE) sections of the June Fair. The pavilion will span a total area of around 600 sq mtrs. While during the September Fair, the India Pavilion will be hosting a total of 110+ exhibitors in the Gemstones (Hall 10), Diamonds (Hall 11) and Fine Jewellery (Hall 3E) sections. The pavilion will occupy a total area of around 1,500 sq mtrs.

India, today, is the most sought after sourcing destination for gems and jewellery for the global market. The overall gem & jewellery exports for the period April 2017 – Jan 2018 accounted for US$ 33903.28 million. Out of which a staggering US $ 10932.78 million export were to Hong Kong; Cut and polished diamonds exports accounted for US$ 7976.81 million; Gold jewellery at US$ 782.13 million whereas coloured gemstones recorded exports worth US$ 160.23 million.

Exhibitors that will be hosted by the India Pavilion at UBM’s Hong Kong fairs will enjoy promotional support from GJEPC.
