GJEPC meets with Indian Ambassador to Azerbaijan

Trade relations between India and Azerbaijan and the reduction in import duty of gems and jewellery products to Azerbaijan were some of the key topics talked about between representatives of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and Indian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, H.E. Shri Sanjay Rana, reports say. The discussions unfolded at the GJEPC headquarters with GJEPC Chairman Praveenshankar Pandya and Executive Director (ED) Sabyasachi Ray also participating.

A request was made to the Ambassador to speak with the Finance Ministry of Azerbaijan to reduce import duty considering trade between India and Azerbaijan is not much currently. Also, the GJEPC spoke about inviting jewellers based in Azerbaijan to visit IIJS Signature 2017 slated in February.

The Ambassador noted he would speak with local jewellers on better trade between India and Azerbaijan and to make representations to their Ministry regarding the import duty reduction on diamonds and coloured gemstones. He further also encouraged that a delegation of Indian gem and jewellery exporters visit Azerbaijan. A suggestion to hold an exhibition of display of goods in Azerbaijan was welcomed and supported by the Ambassador and advised January to March or September to November to be good time periods for the same, as per reports.
