GIA’s Mumbai facility to grade D-to-Z colour diamonds up to 2.99 carats

The GIA (Gemological Institute of America) laboratory in Mumbai has enhanced its services and is now also accepting D-to-Z colour diamonds of up to 2.99 carats (ct), for grading. Previously, it would grade stones upto stones up to 1.99 ct were graded in Mumbai and larger stones were sent to other GIA grading facilities around the world.

“Since we established our India laboratory in 2008, our team has worked diligently to reach out to the industry across the country. The fact that we have consistently been receiving stones of higher carat weight proves the growing awareness in the trade of our Mumbai facility,” said Nirupa Bhatt, managing director of GIA India and the Middle East. “The measure to increase the stone size is the latest in GIA’s on-going commitment to provide the highest standards of service to its clients.”

The lab’s Mumbai facility issues GIA Diamond Grading Reports™ and GIA Diamond Dossiers®, the most popular documents stating a diamond’s quality. The laboratory also accepts coloured gemstones and pearls, which are forwarded to appropriate GIA facilities for service. Complimentary services like free pick-up and delivery services from the Opera House in Mumbai and free shipping service through Brinks in the western suburbs is provided by GIA.
