GIA plans to grow synthetic diamonds

GIA plans to grow diamonds regularly at its research and instrument-development facility located in an unnamed town in New Jersey, chief laboratory and research officer Thomas M. Moses announced during International Diamond Week.

GIA is planning to grow synthetics in order to get better understanding of the synthetic stones and to meet the identification challenges.

Besides, the lab will soon have the ability to mass-screen smaller stones to check for synthetics, Moses said in a speech delivered on August 31, 2015 at the Israel Diamond Exchange. The service will be able to evaluate stones from 1 pointers on up.
