GIA organises its first Indian career fair

The GIA (Gemological Institute of America) noted an overwhelming response to its very first Indian career fair that recently unfolded at its campus in Bandra Kurla in Mumbai on 14th March, 2011. The event was co-sponsored by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). There were over 250 hopefuls registering and 54 firms including diamond manufacturers, jewelry manufacturers and retail outlets participating to seek new talent.

The GIA career fair has been a GIA property in the US for some 20 years, and is looked upon as a powerful bridge and opportunity for the gem and jewellery related manufacturers and retailers to absorb much-needed professional talent into an otherwise largely conservative industry, and for those seeking a career in the gem and jewellery industry, which also includes GIA graduates who have specialised in gemology, diamond grading, jewelry design, manufacture and management. Speaking exclusively to DiamondWorld, Nirupa Bhatt, India Managing Director GIA, said, “This is just the starting and at very elementary level. A career fair for the gem and jewellery industry has huge scope to grow and to be held on a bigger level. We will soon be organizing it as sector specific in different regions of India”.
