GIA approves Sarin's DiaMensionTM HD for symmetry grading

DiaMensionTM HD, a measuring system introduced by Sarin Technologies Ltd., has been approved by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) to have the necessary accuracy and repeatability to be used to evaluate symmetry.

Following the DiaMensionTM HD’s introduction in late 2009, GIA conducted a test on it to determine whether the system’s improved accuracy is sufficient to ascertain data necessary for deriving the polished stone’s symmetry grade, a key parameter of the Cut grade, previously determined only manually, as “the measurement of a round brilliant diamond to evaluate symmetry requires a high degree of accuracy and repeatability for every element of the measurement”, in their words.

An article GIA’s Symmetry Grading Boundaries for Round Brilliant Cut Diamonds, appearing in the Winter 2011 edition of the Gems & Gemology quarterly magazine, documents the conclusion that “improvements in the operation and accuracy … now enable us to also measure … symmetry parameters during the grading process”.

The DiaMensionTM HD features as the most advanced and most accurate measuring system from Sarin’s standard-setting DiaMensionTM family which is the most widely used family of systems for measuring a polished diamond’s geometric proportions and deriving its Cut grade.

Sarin has appropriately adapted the InstructorTM and DiaVisonTM software packages supported by the DiaMensionTM HD to measure and display symmetry-related parameters, so as to help assess the symmetry grade, and will now provide this newest feature as an upgrade to installed and new systems.

Uzi Levami, Chief Executive Officer of Sarin, commented: “Sarin’s customers can now be sure that when they use DiaMensionTM HD they are using the industry’s cutting-edge technology, which will provide them with extremely accurate data, as necessary to support their drive for excellence during the diamond’s polishing phases. We are, obviously, pleased to have measured up, yet again, to the GIA’s highest standards.”
