GIA Brings an Array of Offerings to JCK Las Vegas

GIA  will be presenting an extensive lineup to the 2018 JCK Las Vegas show.  Visit GIA at booth L99 on Level 1 of the Bayside Lobby of the Mandalay Bay Resort from June 1 to 4 for valuable presentations, new product demonstrations, show specials and the chance to connect with GIA staff and alumni. Identifying Synthetic Diamonds

Tradewinds E/F on the Pool Level of the Mandalay Bay Convention Center: Friday, June 1, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Through interactive, guided discussion and a hands-on lab led by GIA instructor(s), this seminar will present information on HPHT and CVD-grown synthetic diamonds and how to separate them from natural diamonds.

Ruby: Country of Origin Determination

Tradewinds E/F on the Pool Level of the Mandalay Bay Convention Center : Friday, June 1, 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

Utilizing specimens from GIA’s country of origin sample collection, students will learn the fundamentals of determining the country of origin for ruby. They will use microscopes during the lab session to identify inclusions in the actual samples used by GIA.

John King, GIA chief quality officer, will speak on “Powerful Symbols: The Unique World of Colored Diamonds.” In this presentation, King will explore the allure of colored diamonds – learn what gives these diamonds their value and today’s market availability.

Instruments

GIA iD100™ : This new instrument distinguishes natural diamonds—mounted and loose, rough and cut—from synthetic (HPHT and CVD) diamonds and diamond simulants in the colorless to near-colorless range, in sizes starting from 0.9 millimeters in diameter.

GIA UV Lamp and Viewing Cabinet – Preview : UV lamp output variation can significantly affect fluorescence color and intensity observed in diamond. This prototype device utilizes a very stable, narrowband UV LED (365 nm) whose output will not fluctuate over time compared to traditional mercury-based UV lamps.

GIA Polariscope – Preview : The GIA Polariscope is used to test the optical properties of gemstones and determine whether a stone is singly refractive, doubly refractive or is an aggregate. Doubly refractive stones may be divided further as to whether they are uniaxial or biaxial. Diamond cutters use the polariscope to determine the strain characteristics of diamonds.

Retailer Support Program (RSP)

GIA’s RSP has a new 4Cs Interactive Counter Tool that helps jewelers educate their customers about the 4Cs of diamond quality. This tool includes scales for each of the 4Cs, matte metal sliders for highlighting individual grades and expanded 4Cs definitions on the back side of the display.

The Passion of Colored Gemstones, a newly published 48-page book, covers colored stone quality factors, geographical source and treatment information with lore and beautiful images for 18 of the most popular colored stones. GIA will be giving away a complimentary copy while supplies last, the book and 4Cs Interactive Counter Tool will also be available through the RSP  site http://retailer.GIA.edu.
