Foundation stone laid for Surat Dream City and Surat Diamond Bourse

Surat is welcoming its third smart city – as Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel laid the foundation stone for the Surat Diamond Research and Merchantile (DREAM) City yesterday, reports say. Representatives from international mining and trading countries like Russia, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Namibia, Russia, Australia and Canada, were present at the foundation stone laying ceremony, report say. Surat already houses two smart cities - Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) and Dholera City.

Currently, The proposed Surat Diamond Bourse will be an addition to the current existing Bharat Diamond Bourse in Mumbai, both being diamond trading houses of international scale. The Surat Dream City would be built over around 2000 acres, within which the Bourse would be built on about 579 acres of land, reports say. Also, the Bourse is expected to house over 10,000 offices of diamond companies.

A Trading at the Bourse could begin within 3-4 years, reports add. The Bourse is planned to provide a more safe and secure environment for diamond trading in Surat. The Dream City will be equipped with international banking and insurance facilities, top grade security surveillance, custom, freight forwarding and consolidation facilities, connecting corridors to airport and highways, smart residential housing projects, and other facilities for residents.

The Diamond Bourse would include facilities for international diamond traders to buy and sell diamonds, apart from banking, insurance and import export facilities will be made available at the Diamond Bourse.
