First International Emerald Symposium to be held in Bogotá

Colombia is hosting the first International Emerald Symposium in Bogotá with an agenda to address various aspects of the emerald industry. The event is to address the challenges and opportunities faced by the emerald industry including resource management, manufacturing, treatments, certification, nomenclature, technology, consumer education and branding.

The conference is organized by Fedesmeraldas, the Colombian Emerald Federation, and supported by all the country's emerald-related bodies and the Ministry of Mines and Energy. It is slated between October 13 to 15.

Also, it is for the first time that producer countries will come together at a high-level international gathering to address issues relating to the emerald business, giving this industry sector much attention as diamond industry representatives have done in the past for their trade. The participation and support of multi-stakeholders of the international precious gemstone and jewelry industry include delegations from governments and private sector of Zambia, Afghanistan and Brazil as well as major international trade organization such as ICA, AGTA CIBJO, GIA, IBGM, GAC among others.

The symposium agenda includes presentations by world class experts from all segments of the supply chain such as Jewelry Designer Erica Courtney and prominent speakers such as the Honourable Christopher B. Yaluma, Minister of Mines from Zambia; Gemfields executive Director Sean Giltbertson ; Muzo Emerald mining CTT MTC representative Charles Burgess among many others. The conference will also include panels of Discussions on subjects of crucial interest for the Emerald and Colored Gemstone sector.
