Fancy color diamond prices remain stable in Q3: FCRF

The Fancy Color Diamond Index, by Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF) notes prices of fancy color diamonds holding steady for the third quarter in 2015 - stretching from July to September 2015, as per reports. The Fancy Color Diamond Index tracks pricing data for yellow, pink and blue fancy color diamonds in the markets of Hong Kong, New York and Tel Aviv.

Amongst the ‘best performing’ in this category were Vivid blues, with a price rise of up to 6 percent from the previous quarter, reports add. During these three months, white diamond prices dropped 6 – 10 percent, reports say.

Inspite the low transaction volumes in the three months, the Index was more or less steady. There was a 2 percent drop in yellow dimaond prices in the fancy category, while blue diamonds delivered an average price rise of up to 2 percent. The hike in blue diamond prices was attributed to the Vivid category in which sizes (1.5 carat, 2 carats and 5 carat) rose by 5 – 6 percent over the previous quarter. This rise is the ‘most significant quarterly price boost’ for blue diamonds in the period of the last 12 months. Pink diamond prices remained steady, on an average.

Based on y-o-y comparison to Q3 2014, the strongest performance came from blue diamonds delivering a 3 – 4 percent rise in price. The 5 carat Vivid blue diamonds delivered the highest single-category price rise on y-o-y basis with 11 percent, reports say.

According to FCRF, the demand for blue diamonds may have been more with the enthusiasm of the forthcoming Sotheby''s auction which will be led by the "Blue Moon" diamond, as per reports, leading to a rise in demand against lesser availability of fancy blue diamonds."
