Eli Izhakoff honoured by Government of South Africa

During the 10th anniversary KP Intersessional Meeting, the Government of South Africa paid tribute to Eli Izhakoff, outgoing President of the World Diamond Council, for his significant role in establishing the Kimberley Process. Hon. Susan Shabangu, Minister of Mineral Resources presented the award on behalf of the South African Government.

In addition, an award was presented to the Hon. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, the former Deputy President of South Africa and former Minister of Minerals and Energy when the Kimberley Process was founded 13 years ago. Thirdly, Ambassador Robert Fowler, former Canadian Ambassador to the United Nations was also honored. The three awards were in honour of the contributions made by the three towards creation and success of the Kimberley Process. Minister Shabangu commended them for their efforts in bringing the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme to where it stands today. "The presentation of this well deserved major award was a very proud moment for Eli and the entire WDC family” said the incoming WDC President Avi Paz, who also attended the 10th anniversary Kimberley Process meeting.
