Element Six to discuss Synthetics at CLEO/Europe-EQEC

Element Six, the world leader in synthetic diamond supermaterials will present two papers at the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics/Europe and the European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC) on June 24. The Conference is the benchmark conference where European researchers present their most groundbreaking results in a wide range of areas in optics and applied photonics. The event will be held at the ICM Centre of the New Munich Trade Fair Centre in Munich, Germany.

Element Six is a member of the De Beers Group of Companies.

Andrew Bennett, principal research scientist at Element Six, will present an invited paper titled “Diamond—An Engineer’s Best Friend.” Authored by Andrew Bennett and Daniel Twitchen, the paper explores diamond’s remarkable physical and chemical properties and its performance capabilities as an optical engineering material. Bennett will review and explore several case studies, summarizing key progress in diamond fabrication techniques, utilizing chemical vapour deposition (CVD) synthesis and mechanical and chemical processing, and solutions for integration such as mounting and anti-reflective coatings.

Eugene Anoikin, manager of product applications and engineering at Element Six, will present a session titled “Diamond Optical Windows with Sub-Wavelength Surface Structures.” Authored by Eugene Anoikin and Alexander Muhr, “Diamond Optical Windows with Sub-Wavelength Surface Structures,” Anoikin. will address design and fabrication of sub-wavelength structured surfaces (SWS) on synthetic diamond windows. Additionally, Anoikin will touch on how a diamond has become a material of choice for high power laser windows in multi-kilowatt CO2 laser systems, a key enabler of applications such as EUV lithography.
