Dubai’s diamond trade increases by 153% in H1

Dubai recorded a 153 percent increase in its diamond exports for the first six months of 2008. Exports valued at $2.35 billion, as compared to $929 million a year ago. Of the diamond exports, total trade in polished diamonds stood at $5.29 billion in the said H1.

India increased its imports of diamonds with Dubai by 242 percent, amounting to $1.62 billion, while it exported $1.96 billion to Dubai. Belgium followed next with $2.3 million imported and $4.93 million exports. U.S. imported $1.39 million. Hong Kong exported $1.88 million, while Japan increased its imports by 322 percent and South Africa and Tanzania increased imports by 152 percent.

DMCC is paving the way for the world to realise the potential of the emerging Dubai gem and jewellery industry. The Middle East-China Diamond and Jewellery Summit (MECDJS) is scheduled for November 8-9 and will be a window to this intention of DMCC.
