Diamonds for a social cause

The Diamond Information Centre of the De Beers Group has gathered together six influential women personalities of India and six diamond manufacturing companies to create diamond jewellery which will be recognized for its social cause, as reported in a local press. The brief given to these women was to design diamond jewellery basis their inspiration from the FOREVERMARK. The jewellery was auctioned online at www.inspirations.saffronart.com all through 23rd and 24th of January.

The six personalities include, Anjolie Menon, Parmeshwar Godrej, Maharani Gayatri Devi, Shobhaa De, Avanti Birla and Shobhana Chandrakumar Pillai. They were also asked to identify the charity which they would like to donate the proceeds acquired from the auction of their designs.

Anjolie Menon said that she was inspired by the Renaissance era. Orra diamonds were used in her jewellery, which she would donate to ‘Child For Life’.
Parmeshwar Godrej crafted her diamonds supplied by Mahendra Brothers to create jewellery for Hereos Project. She was inspired to design her diamond pendant as bold and elegant, which can be worn with a velvet or suede band.
Maharani Gayatri Devi designed her ring from the inspirations of the Royal City of Palace Jaipur. Her diamonds were supplied by Shrenuj. The charity she identified with was Sawai jai Singh Benevolent.

Shobhaa De, a columnist has designed a brooch inspired around the theme of love depicted through Rabindranath Tagore’s novel Gitanjali. It can be worn as a pendant, a brooch or a hair ornament. Her diamonds came from Dimexon and her social cause is Cancer Patients Aid Association. Avanti Birla design was inspired by her the spiritual association with Radha-Krishna. The It has motifs of the lotus flower, a peacock, feathers and flutes, quite like the paintings of the 16th century depicting the love between Radha and Krishna. Her diamonds were given by D’damas and her social cause was the Mid-day Meal Programme.
Shobhana Chandrakumar Pillai, a dancer used her inspiration of the fluid movements and grace in dancing to design earrings. The diamonds are form Prince Jewellers. Her auction money will got to Kalarpana Trust.
