Diamond businessmen Babu Vaghani, Ravji and Nitin Dholakia were travelling from Charni Road to Borivli. While Vaghnani was killed in the blast near Matunga, Dholakia received minor injuries and Ravji suffered major injuries. A diamond trader, Mavajibhai Gothi, 44, from Katra village — 45 Km from Palanpur — died in the blast at Khar.
At least 60 of the total 271 people injured listed in KEM, Hinduja, Nanavati, Sion, Cooper, Bhabha and Asha Parekh hospital and Sarla nursing home, seemed to be Gujaratis.
A condolence meeting was arranged by the Mumbai diamond industry to pay homage to the dead in the blasts. They made contributions to the families of the dead. The blasts have caused the industry great loss and the industry grieves till date.
