The aftershocks of serial blasts in Mumbai on July 11, 2006, shook Mumbai and Gujarat diamond industry alike. A large number of people killed and injured were Gujaratis. It is estimated that around 15% of people caught in the blasts were from the diamond fraternity. In view of these deaths, the members of the diamond industry had shut shop on Thursday. Among those dead were Mavji Patel (Palanpur), Babu Dula Vaghani (Bhavnagar), Naresh Sariya (Bhavnagar), Kalu Asodariya (Amreli), and Yogesh Doshi (Palanpur) from Gujarat.

Diamond businessmen Babu Vaghani, Ravji and Nitin Dholakia were travelling from Charni Road to Borivli. While Vaghnani was killed in the blast near Matunga, Dholakia received minor injuries and Ravji suffered major injuries. A diamond trader, Mavajibhai Gothi, 44, from Katra village — 45 Km from Palanpur — died in the blast at Khar.
At least 60 of the total 271 people injured listed in KEM, Hinduja, Nanavati, Sion, Cooper, Bhabha and Asha Parekh hospital and Sarla nursing home, seemed to be Gujaratis.

A condolence meeting was arranged by the Mumbai diamond industry to pay homage to the dead in the blasts. They made contributions to the families of the dead. The blasts have caused the industry great loss and the industry grieves till date.
