Diamdel witnesses strong demand at January-February auction

Diamdel’s auction for the January-February 2012 period held between 2 February - 27 February 2012, met with strengthened demand, with buyers taking advantage of the opportunity to purchase the exact products they required, and in the quantities required.

Neil Ventura, CEO for the Diamdel business commented ‘‘The first sales of 2012 met with solid improvements in demand across all product categories and geographies. All our indicators point towards a continued, broad based strengthening in demand in the coming weeks and into early Q2’’.

The auction offered 323 lots including Large, +2ct, Grainers, Smalls and Near Gem Diamdel Days product categories.

Diamdel also noted that demand improved further for all Diamdel Days product categories, and there was a significant improvement in buyer requirements for Near Gem and Smalls products.

There were 165 businesses bidding at the auctions. All major markets showed improved demand for rough, including substantial improvement noted in demand from Israel and Belgium-based businesses. The greatest pick up in demand came from Indian-based businesses, while Asia Pacific based buyers held steady.

The competition at the auctions between Sightholders and Non Sightholders resulted in 58 percent of lots being won by Non Sightholders in US$ terms. Altogether 300 lots were allocated to 76 different buyers. No buyer won more than 26 (8.6 percent) of the lots sold.
