The festival of Ganapati is currently enthralling all Indians. In the diamond city of Surat, a devotee has kept a Ganapati idol carved out of a 182.53 carat natural rough diamond. The idol is kept by chairman of Karam Group of Mahidarpura, Kanubhai Asodaria.

The rough was mined in Africa and is of yellowish grey in colour. It measures around 48 mm high, 32 mm wide and 20mm thick with a weight of 36.50 grams.

Kanubhai Asodaria had purchased the diamond 12 years ago in Antwerp. According to reports he has permitted Darshan of this idol only during the Ganapati puja days and one needs to book a prior appointment with his office for the same. He notes that this is the only rough natural diamond Ganesha in the world and he had kept it for safekeeping throughout the year in a undisclosed location.
