Day one of Hong Kong Jewellery Fair attracts buyers

The September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair has kickstarted at the Asia World Expo, one of the two venues for the show this year. The show will last at the AWE until 18 September 2010 and at the second venue – the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center (HKCEC) from 16-20 September. The first day saw 6,187 visitors, at the AWE which hosts over 1,300 exhibitors of raw materials, semi-finished jewellery, tools and packaging. The event has seen a good number of overseas buyers. The top 5 visiting countries and regions were India, China, USA, Taiwan and the Philippines.

Celine Lau, director of the jewellery fairs at UBM Asia said: “We had a good start to the show. We are staging the most anticipated event of the year for the jewellery trade in Asia. I am sure the exhibitors will have great business going on in the next days.”

The Asia World Expo featured pavilions including: Fine Gem Pavilion showcasing the world’s finest loose diamonds, coloured gemstones and pearls with 54 exhibitors.

The largest Diamond Pavilion with 400+ exhibitors including diamond companies from Antwerp World Diamond Centre, the Israel Diamond Institute, the United States and the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council of India, showcasing fine cut and polished diamonds over 15,000 sq. mtrs. of exhibition space.

Gemstones and Pearls Pavilion showcasing rough and polished gemstones, and pearls offered by over 700 exhibitors.

Packaging Tools & Equipment Pavilion offering latest jewellery manufacturing and packaging materials, tools and equipment by over 140 exhibitors.

The fair is slated to feature over 3,200 exhibitors from 45 countries and regions, four themed pavilions, 22 group pavilions, Hong Kong Pavilion Jewellery Parades and the Pavilion of the year: the India pavilion.
