Day 2 of Hong Kong Jewellery Fair picks up in the second half

On Tuesday morning, Hong Kong woke up to Typhoon 8 (T8) warnings which led to suspension of local transportation. Though the T8 signal was lowered at 10.40 am and replaced with T3, reports say.

The sudden T8 warning affected the footfall at Day 2 of the Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair as the exhibitors and buyers had trouble commuting to the venue owing to the suspension of transportation services. However, exhibitors managed to reach the venue.

Second half of the show picked up, as typhoon effect diminished. However, there were incidents of diamonds being stolen and replaced in various booths in the show which created a big disappointment for sellers.

The government said it had received 44 reports of fallen trees, while the Drainage Service Department received four reports of flooding, in Eastern District, Kwun Tong, North District and Islands District. The MTR was running limited frequency rail services on its lines, with train running every 10 to 20 minutes. Classes were suspended at schools for the morning, adds a report.
