Leading jewellery and watch retailer Damas joined hands with Gemological Institute of America (GIA), to help Damas staff understand how to better identify natural and synthetic diamonds This knowledge was given in the form of a two-day specialized training program.

“Based on market trends, we identified a need for our staff to be well trained in identifying natural and emerging forms of synthetic diamonds,” said Anan Fakhreddin, CEO, Damas. Select Damas staff in the UAE were given training on the methods of identifying natural from synthetic gemstones, including stones that are made using new sophisticated technologies. The advanced training program built on the existing knowledge base of the employees, enhancing their knowledge on the subject

A Chemical Vapor Disposition Diamond (CVD) is a sophisticated version of a synthetic diamond, and is produced in an artificial process in a laboratory. Hands on training using sophisticated equipment to identify the CVD diamonds was part of the recent course, which was organized by the Damas Learning and Development Department and conducted in the company’s head office in Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai. This is part of an ongoing series of training sessions.

Anan Fakhreddin further added that “Damas has built its name on trust, so having professionally trained and knowledgeable staff reassures our customers, and at the same time gives us a strong edge in the market. Our product and sales teams already have the knowledge, equipment and experience to identify real and synthetic diamonds; however this latest training expands their knowledge base and ensures a high level of excellence and quality that Damas is renowned for. We are delighted to work with GIA to ensure that our staff are receiving the best possible training available”.
