DRI to auction seized diamonds worth Rs 3.85 crore

The revenue will be handed to the government exchequer

Illicit diamonds worth Rs 3.85 crore which were seized from two smugglers in 2008 are going to be auctioned, as decided by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), reports say. The revenue realized from the auction will be handed to the government exchequer, as per reports.

This case was the first diamond smuggling case cracked by the DRI, who seized the stones from two Lebanese nationals-Robai Hussain and Yusuf Ossely. In 2013, the District and Sessions Court ordered the release of 'muddamal' worth Rs 3.85 crore seized from the two foreign nationals. The two accused were sentenced four years of judicial custody in 2011, reports say.
