DMIA calls for industry support to tackle issue of synthetic diamonds

Ronnie VanderLinden, President, Diamond Manufacturers & Importers Association of America (DMIA) called upon the gem and jewellery industry to be immediate and forceful in its response towards the recent issue of synthetic diamonds being represented as natural diamonds. It noted that the major problems in attacking this issue is the lack of cohesion from stakeholders all of whom are rightfully very concerned.

DMIA had issued a formal call to action 18 months ago in May of 2012 and do so again now. The body has been in contact with local as well as Federal law enforcement agencies, the United States Department of State, and the domestic industry leaders; among them GIA, JA, AGS, MJSA, JVC, amongst others. Seeking the support of international and domestic leaders from industry, law enforcement, and laboratories to physically gather together as soon as possible and for as long as is necessary to finalize the best approach is what DMIA is now stressing upon. It has proactively offered to host a conclave in New York City and to work immediately with others to make it a reality.
