The Diamond Development Initiative (DDI) took a step further in improving lives of artisanal miners, by joining hands with Promines, reports say. This partnership will work to enhance governance of metals mining in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and will take the DDI’s efforts beyond diamonds, reports add.

Promines is a technical assistance project, with funding provided by the World Bank and the British Department for International Development, to work with the government of the DRC for restructuring the mining sector in the Congo.

Through the tie-up between DDI and Promines, the Democratic Republic of the Congo can formalize the artisanal mining sector and reinforce management, and establish a foundation for the social and economic development of the artisanal mining communities.

This initiative will be activated in provinces of Maniema, South Kivu and Province Orientale for artisanal miners of gold, tin, tantalum and tungsten, reports say.
