DDC and DMIA issue statement regarding GIA’s alert

The Diamond Dealers Club (DDC) of New York and the Diamond Manufacturers & Importers Association of America (DMIA) have issued a joint statement, pursuant to the GIA alert regarding about diamonds being subject to undisclosed treatment, reports say. The alert issued by GIA was regarding around 500 colourless to near-colourless diamonds having been potentially subjected to an undisclosed, temporary treatment, which masks the inherent colour of the diamond and can lead to a higher grade, reports add.

In the statement, both bodies noted that “The Diamond Dealers Club of New York and the Diamond Manufacturers & Importers Association of America stand united in strong condemnation of the use of undisclosed treatments. The DDC and the DMIA support the highest ethical standards. Disciplinary action will be taken if any member fails to follow DDC and DMIA rules and regulations regarding proper disclosure.” Both bodies further added that as a reminder to their members, “all treatments must be clearly written and disclosed on all memos and invoices.” They further expressed support to the GIA in such endeavours.
