Christie’s HK Magnificent Jewels sale churns US$89.5 million

Christie’s sale of Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels generated revenues worth around US$89.5 million. Vickie Sek, Director of the Jewellery and Jadeite Department, Christie’s Asia commented, “With US$110 million changing hands in two days, we have just concluded our best season for jewellery and watches in Asia.

One of the lots - The Imperial Cushions, sold at a world record price per carat for a colourless Golconda diamond. This “magnificent pair of D-colour Golconda diamonds, achieved a world record price of US$200,000 per carat as the Asian market continues to grow and position itself as a major centre in the international world of auctions,” added Sek.

The top ten lots included – The Imperial cushions selling for US$200,000 per carat, followed by a marquise-cut fancy blue VVS2 diamond of 13.39 carat bought by Leviev for US$ 7,568,650, A pair of Kashmir sapphire and diamond ear pendants of 14.84 and 13.47 cts bought for US$ 4,114,570, A circular cut D, Flawless diamond of 18.88 cts bought for US$ 3,970,650, A pear-shaped D, IF and pink diamond necklace comprising a total of 67.63 cts sold for US$ 3,538,890, A pair of heart-shaped D, IF diamonds of 13.03 and 12.86 cts sold for US$ 3,394,970, A three-strand natural pearl and diamond necklace suspending a natural pearl drop sold for US$ 2,459,490, an oval-shaped Burmese ruby necklace comprising a total of 64.95 cts sold for US$ 2,387,530, A circular cut D, IF Golconda diamond of 11.25 cts sold for US$ 2,315,570, and lastly A cushion-shaped D, IF diamond of 13.15 cts was bought for US$ 2,171,650.
