Christie’s Geneva sale creates world auction record for a Kashmir Sapphire

Christie’s Geneva held the Magnificent Jewels sale on May 13, 2015, clocking US$97,515,535 in sales. The top lot sold was a rectangular-cut fancy vivid pink diamond ring of 5.18 carats, which was bought for $10,709,442. A cushion-shaped Kashmir sapphire ring of 35.09 carats sold for $7,357,999, setting a world auction record for a Kashmir Sapphire. This was the third top-selling lot amongst the top ten sold at the auction. The second top lot was a pear-shaped D-colour Flawless Type IIa diamond of 55.52 carats bought for $9,033,721.

A late 19th century single-strand natural pearl necklace, measuring approximately 11.1 to 7.8 mm went down the hammer as the fourth top lot for $3,886,861. A cushion-shaped Burmese ruby ring of 30.20 carats sold as the fifth lot for $3,408,084. Amongst the other jewels in the top ten lot were a brilliant-cut F colour Internally Flawless diamond pendant of 36.55 carats, a rectangular-cut fancy purplish pink Internally Flawless Type IIA diamond ring of 7.47 carats, a three-strand natural pearl and diamond necklace, measuring 12.2 to 5.3 mm, a rectangular step-cut D colour SI1 Type IIa diamond ring of 27.49 carats and a rectangular-cut E colour, VVS2 diamond ring of 18.26 carats, by Bulgari.
