During June 2009, China’s total diamond imports increased both in volume and value, reports say. In terms of value diamond imports in the said month increased by 68 percent to $65.7 million, while volume-wise they stepped up by 63 percent to 70,100 carats.
Polished diamond imports amounted to 69,800 carats, and were worth $65.66 million. Three hundred carats of rough diamonds were imported in the month valuing $39,600. Reports add, that total diamond transactions at Shanghai Diamond Exchange (SDE) during June, increased in value by 21 percent to $136 million, signaling a rise in domestic demand.
