During welcome speech, Pramod Kumar Agrawal said, “This is an encouraging event for our award winners. All of them have worked really hard. It is because of these achievers that we have been able to expand our market share in the world.” He also spoke about a meeting held between the Council and the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and reiterated that the same should support the industry in its endeavours for an increase in exports.

Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, said, “There is so much to learn from the Bhagavad Gita. The teachings tell us that we have to work in collaboration, in a united spirit and camaraderie for the betterment of the economy. I congratulate all the winners and I have no doubt that each and every one of you will work towards the growth of the industry and every stakeholder in the pipeline, including the World Bank who we work with closely.” He added that the industry might have had a few black sheep, but it has a lot of potential. “These awards must encourage more people to work harder and achieve larger milestones and be encouraging to those who aspire to become big in the industry,” he added. Mr. Goyal was awarded the “Outstanding Support for the Gems & Jewellery Industry” award by the entire jewellery fraternity. Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe said, “I am finding myself the odd man out on this dais. Piyushji told me that he does not feel qualified to give you all advice, but I find myself even less qualified than him. In the midst of people working in gems, jewellery and diamond industry I am a person who works in the political field who does not have capacity to give any inputs. Literacy about this industry is very low in education institutes. People don't know much about this industry and the wealth they create.”
