CIBJO’s Coloured Stone Commission prepares Special Report

CIBJO's Coloured Stone Commission has prepared its Special Report, for the 2010 CIBJO Congress slated to be held in Munich, Germany, later this month. The Coloured Stone Commission has an agenda to introduce and ratify the Emerald Guide and recommend modifications in its Ruby and Sapphire guides.

The Ruby Guide will now include Mozambique to the list of known mining localities, while the Commission plans on adding a qualifier: "Sapphires come in all colours of the rainbow except red", to the Sapphire Guide.

The Report also gives an update on the Retailers Reference Guide (RRG) that was released during the 2009 CIBJO Congress in Istanbul, Turkey, whose gemstone section is largely devoted to coloured gemstones. The Report also contains a profile of Francesco Roberto, the author of the Emerald Guide. He served as vice president of CIBJO's Sector III and vice president of the CIBJO Pearl Commission. At the 2008 CIBJO Congress in Dubai, he was given a special award in recognition of his contributions to the World Jewellery Confederation.
