CIBJO to host ‘Emerald Day’ conference prior to 2011 Congress

CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation is hosting its second gemological mini conference entitled ‘Emerald Day’, on March 13 in Porto, Portugal, just before the 2011 CIBJO Congress in Porto, Portugal. The concept to host these annual gemological mini conferences just prior to the Congress was the idea of Dr. Margherita Superchi, a renowned Italian gemologist and president of the CIBJO Gemmological Commission, who thought this to be an opportunity for gemmologists, jewellers and other industry professionals to discuss recent gemstone research and offer gemmological updates at CIBO congresses, as many of the subjects that concern CIBJO and its commissions are closely related to gemmology.

The first gemological mini conference was entitled Ruby day and was held prior to the 2010 CIBJO Congress in Munich, Germany. This year, the ‘Emerald Day’ conference will present research findings of emerald, the green gemstone variety of the mineral Beryl, with presentations and discussions led by prestigious gemmologists from around the globe. "With increasing consumer demands for gem-quality emeralds in traditional and emerging markets in Asia and Russia, the timing of the Emerald Day mini conference is perfect," Superchi noted.
