CIBJO president presents outline of WJCEF's educational programme

CIBJO president, Gaetano Cavalieri narrated an outline of the educational porgramme for the World Jewellery Confederation Education Foundation (WJCEF) at the recently held Antwerp Diamond Symposium. The WJCEF had been set up by CIBJO with the support of the United Nations (UN), to promote Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) across the global jewellery trade.

The educational programme has been craeted in two levels. Part of the first level includes hands-on workshop, to be followed by eight weeks of online courses, reports say. There would be a second hands-on workshop at the conclusion of the first level. The second level would include part of a CSR certificate programme being currently taught at the University of Toronto, and students would be awarded a joint certificate in CSR studies upon completion of Level two. The certificate would be accredited by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

Both levels would include general CSR training, elements specific to the sector of the industry which the candidate is involved, reports say. The programme has been designed by AIFOMD, a UN-sanctioned body delving in creating educational programmes to push the UN's Millennium Development Goals.

While introducing the educational programme’s outline, Gaetano Cavalieri also urged the jewellery industry to adopt CSR as the core of its business and products, which in turn could help eliminate the consumer notion that jewellery has no overriding humanitarian value.
