CIBJO congress to focus on lab-grown diamonds

The World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) is slated to hold its congress in April, in Dubai, with a keen focus on discussing all trade aspects related to lab-grown diamonds. As a preview of the congress agenda, three CIBJO commissions released reports of the topics to be discussed in details.

The CIBJO Diamond Commission (CDC) will pay attention to a complete insight into lab-grown stones. It will highlight the importance of recognizing such diamonds with terms such as ‘man-made’ ‘laboratory-created’ or ‘

  • company name
  • -created’ diamonds. Fort he diamond grading labs, guidelines will be discussed. The CDC will invite a member of the confederation's Gemmological Commission onto its steering commission and will partner with the International Diamond Council in discussing these issues.

The confederation's Marketing and Education Commission will address lab-grown diamonds through a preview of its latest publication, The Retailer's Guide to Understanding Diamonds, Gemstones, Pearls and Precious Metals, in Dubai. The publication is directed at retailers with fundamental information on the basic elements of these materials and a series of ‘key facts’ guides for the salespeople.

The Gemmological Commission is preparing an application form for gemological laboratories interested in being listed by CIBJO. The form is a 10-article document namely the CIBJO Chart for Laboratories. The CIBJO congress is scheduled for April 14-16.
