BaselWorld 2011 meets expectations of good sales

Baselworld 2011 which began March 24 with high optimism, ended on March 31, 2011, on a satisfying note that expectations were fulfilled. For an event which is the highlight for the watch and jewellery industry, its concluding optimism reiterates the strong sales observed in the months of January and February 2011.

The watch segment saw the launch of new editions and collections, which met with good response, and companies exhibiting in this section expressed focus on Asia market specifically India, China and Middle East.

The jewellery section saw a mixed response, with low end and commercial jewellery not attracting much interest, while the high-end jewellery met with good response. Semi-precious stones received satisfying response, as did emeralds. Loose diamonds faired average, unlike the high response received at the Hong Kong Show in February. Tanzanite could gain only a lukewarm interest.

The event saw 103,200 visitors attend (an increase of 2.5 percent from 2010) and 1,892 exhibitors (1,915 exhibitors in 2010).
